Health Education
The California Healthy Young Act requires that all school districts provide comprehensive sexual health education and disease prevention education to students at least once in middle school and once in high school, beginning in grade 7. The Board of Education approved that this curriculum be delivered in grades 8 and 9.
The information provided will be medically accurate, age-appropriate, and inclusive of all students to encourage students to communicate with their parents, guardians, or other trusted adults about human sexuality and healthy relationships. San José Unified contracts with Health Connected to deliver this curriculum. Learn more about their programs.
Parents/guardians will be notified in writing before students are offered instruction in comprehensive sexual health education. Parents/guardians may submit a written request to the school principal if they do not want their student to participate in this instruction.
